First responders from Croton-on-Hudson, Ossining, and Westchester County Police received reports of a crash at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27, near the entrance of Croton Gorge Park.

According to officials, while attempting to avoid another vehicle while driving on Route 129, the driver accidentally went through a guardrail, became airborne and came to rest nearly 75 feet down, near the edge of the Croton River.

Upon arrival at the scene, first responders found that the driver had escaped the vehicle with only minor injuries, but he, two others and a Croton police sergeant required assistance in getting up the steep hillside.

Members of the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department were able to set up a rope, and sent a member down the hill to assess the situation. First responders then helped the four up the hill, with the driver and police sergeant transported to an area hospital for evaluation on minor injuries.

A&P Towing responded to the scene and was able to remove the vehicle from the crash site within approximately two hours.
